Baby's First Christmas

Logan's first Christmas was wonderful!  We had many celebrations, and he enjoyed every one of them.  He was such a good sport, especially since he missed naps, stayed up too late, and did not always get to sleep in his bed.  On Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, we celebrated with my Mom's side of the family.  On Sunday (the day after Christmas), we drove to McKenzie to visit my Dad.  Finally on Monday, we celebrated with Brian's family.  We are so blessed to be able to celebrate Jesus's birth with all of our family!

On Christmas morning, Brian read the Christmas Story from the Bible for Logan and me.  This is something we want to be a tradition in the Tucker house.  I am sure Logan will always receive lots of presents from Santa, but we want him to know the true meaning of Christmas.  Brian and I always try adopt an Angel from the Salvation Army Angel Tree and/or participate in Highpoint Church's Christmas in a Red Bag ministry for single mothers, which is also something we want to make a tradition with Logan at Christmas time.

As for presents, Logan received lots of them!  Some of them include a Radio Flyer wagon, a Musical Table, a Rocking Horse, several Dr. Seuss books, and even more toys and clothes.  Even though he did not know exactly what was going on, Logan loved playing with the tissue paper!

We enjoyed our first Christmas as a family of three, and we look forward to many more to come.  Here are more pictures from the holiday weekend.

Fun with Solid Foods: Part 2

Lately, Logan has been giving us many signs that he is ready to try more solid foods.  He is constantly reaching for anything we are eating or drinking, and he stares intently (especially at Brian) as we take each bite.  Since our doctor said we could introduce baby foods at anytime between 4 and 6 months, we decided to give it a try on Monday night at just over 5 months.

We were excited to see Logan's reaction to trying veggies and fruits, particularly since he loved rice cereal and oatmeal at first bite.  One of Brian's favorite vegetables is green peas, and he really wanted it to be Logan's first food (besides rice cereal and oatmeal).  Well, here is the face we got after he tried it...

Logan made the funniest faces when he was eating the peas!  He never spit them out, but he certainly had dislike written all over his face.  We then tried a few bites of apples, which I thought he would love, and his faces were equally as funny!  It was like he thought they were sour or tart.

On Tuesday night, we gave him the rest of his green peas and he gobbled them up, but he still acted like the apples were sour.  Then on Wednesday night, he loved carrots but was not a huge fan of bananas.  Maybe our boy will always love his veggies more than the sweet stuff!

Bath time cuteness

I just had to post this picture of Logan taking a bath.  He is quickly outgrowing his infant tub, and soon we will be moving him to the big tub.  For now, he definitely enjoys making a mess of the kitchen by kicking and splashing water everywhere.  I'm sure we will embarass him with this picture in front of his prom date in about 16 years... I just love those sweet baby fat rolls!

5 Months Old!

Where has the time gone?  Our sweet boy is 5 months old!  This has been a very busy month for us as we celebrated Logan's first Thanksgiving, and we participated in Highpoint's Family Dedication service.  Logan is still growing (and growing and growing), and we estimate that he weighs about 25 pounds and is about 29 inches long.  Our big boy is already wearing size 18 months clothes!

Here are some exciting things Logan has been doing this month:
  • Sitting independently for at least a minute or so
  • Growing teeth- he got his first one at 4 1/2 months!
  • Rolling over from back to tummy all the time- even in his sleep
  • Squealing and talking with new sounds and starting to combine consonants and vowel sounds
  • Eating rice cereal and oatmeal and loving it
  • Becoming more interested in what we are eating- he just stares at us!
  • Grabbing his feet
  • Smiling and laughing a lot- his favorite game is peek-a-boo
It is hard to believe we have been blessed to have Logan in our lives for 5 months already!  We are looking forward to his first Christmas and spending lots of time with family over the next month.

Family Dedication

Last Sunday, we have the privilege of participating in Highpoint Church's Family Dedication service.  During the service, we made a commitment to raise Logan in a Godly family.  We made four commitments during the service:

1. Ground Logan in truth.
2. Ground Logan in God's grace.
3. Ground Logan in integrity.
4. Guide Logan with legacy.

Earlier this year our teaching pastor, Andy Savage, lead a series entitled 7000 days.  We had the honor of hearing this series before Logan's birth, and I think it is something every parent should hear.  The series can be viewed online: imperfect.tv

Here is a great picture of my Grandmother (Logan's Great Grandmother) and Logan after the dedication service.  So sweet!

Fun with Solid Foods

When Logan turned four months old, we decided he was ready to try rice cereal.  He met all of requisite criteria for starting solid foods, including being able to sit well with support, opening mouth when food is offered, and showing interest in what we are eating.  And, he loved it!  About a week later we tried oatmeal, and he loved it even more.  He even squealed after his first bite!  Who knew making such a mess would be so much fun.

We have recently added a second daily cereal feeding, and we plan to add fruits and veggies around six months.  We cannot wait to see how he reacts!

Here is a sweet photo of Logan trying to eat his oatmeal and his hand at the same time...  I love those big brown eyes!

4 Months Old!

Our sweet baby is growing up- Logan turned four months old on November 8th!  He is growing and changing everyday, and we are amazed at all of the new things he does. We visited Logan's pediatrician for his four month check up, and we found out that Logan is continuing his trend of being "off the growth charts" (greater than 97 percentile).  Here are his measurements from his four month check up.

Height: 27 3/4 inches (greater than 97th percentile)
Weight: 21 lbs., 10 oz. (greater than 97th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.5 inches (greater than 97th percentile)

This month, even Logan's head circumference is off of the growth charts!  The best we can tell, he is about the size of an average 12 month old.  He mainly wears 12 month size clothes, and he appears to be about the size of several 12 month old babies we have been around recently.  If Logan continues this trend, he will be tall like his Daddy!

Here is what Logan has been up to this month:

  • "Talking" and even "singing" back to me when I sing his favorite songs: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Jesus Loves Me, and You Are My Sunshine
  • Making the sweetest squealing noises when he is happy
  • Smiling and laughing all of the time, especially when we make eye contact with him and tickle him
  • LOVING his jumparoo--- it is the funniest thing we have ever seen, and he can really jump high!
  • Rolling over from his tummy to his back
  • Getting stronger every day and constantly improving his control when it comes to standing and sitting with support
  • Becoming more aware of his surroundings
  • Enjoying eating rice cereal every night before bed- he eats every bite that we fix!
  • Putting everything in his mouth- his favorite things include rattles, burp cloths, and blankets
  • Outgrowing his clothes almost faster than he can wear them!
It seems as though Logan is doing something new every day.  Today, for example, he was trying to move his legs in a crawling motion when we put him on his stomach.  I'm sure he won't actually be mobile for at least a couple of months, and that is definitely OK with us.  We need a little more time to prepare ourselves and our home for a crawling baby!

The photo in this post was taken when Logan was 3 1/2 months old by Lisa McAdoo.

Logan Meets Bill Haslam and Impromptu Family Photos

Brian turned the big 3-0 on October 11, and we decided to go to Chattanooga the following weekend to visit some friends.  It was my first time to leave Logan overnight, and my Mom graciously offered to keep him.  They had a great time!  I also made it OK and had a great time with my hubby; although, I only let Brian take me away from Logan for one night :)

Mom and Logan got to meet Bill Haslam (who is running for TN governor) at a Nashville Republican Women event.  My grandfather (Papa, my Mom's father, who is very much a Democrat) insists that my Mom is trying to brainwash Logan by taking him to this Republican event before he is even 4 months old!  However, Brian certainly agrees with my Mom in the political arena and was thrilled she got the following photo.  As for me, I try to stay out of political discussions- especially with family members.  The picture is cute no matter which side of the fence you are on...

When we returned on Sunday, a friend of my Mom's was taking some photos of sweet Logan.  So, of course, Brian and I jumped right in.  Here are some of those photos:

This last picture was not posed--- I think Logan was trying to grab my hair and was hitting me in the face, and this is the picture that happened.  It looks like Logan is happy about whatever is going on!

3 Months Old!

Technically this post is a little late... Logan turned three months old on October 8.  However, since returning to work at the beginning of the month, I have had very little time for blogging!

Logan's next check up will be at 4 months, but we do not have to see a doctor to know our baby boy is growing fast!  We estimate his weight to be approximately 19 pounds and his length at least 27 inches.  He is one tall boy, and he is changing all the time.

Some of the new developments in Logan's life over the last three months include:
  • Grabbing everything in sight- with his favorite items being his Mom's hair and jewelry, toys on his Baby Einstein playmat, and burp cloths
  • "Talking" to anyone who will listen, and he is loud!
  • Kicking his legs and moving his arms like it is his job
  • Smiling a lot- especially when people look him in the eye
  • Loving tummy time and working really hard to roll over (although he has not done it yet!)
  • Preferring to sit up in your lap rather than be held like a "baby"
  • Drooling like crazy, which his Mom thinks is a result of teeth soon to come
  • Sleeping for seven straight hours most nights
Logan is such a sweet, happy baby, and we love him so much!  Here are some pictures from Logan's third month:

Beach fun!

Brian and I decided to take a last minute trip to the beach last week before I went back to work, and we had a blast on Logan's first vacation!  We went to Orange Beach, Alabama, and we enjoyed lots of quiet time and great seafood while we were there.  Logan seemed to enjoy the trip, and he even slept for a record 7 hours straight on our second night there (and he has not slept that long since!).  He loved taking naps on the beach, and he was so great when we went to dinner, to shop, and everywhere else we took him.  We can't wait to take him back next year as I am sure it will be a whole different experience for all of us when he is 1!

Here are some of my favorite pictures of Logan from the trip:

First Trip to Church

We decided to wait until Logan had gotten his vaccinations at two months of age before taking him to church for the first time because we knew everyone would want to see him and hold him.  And, we were right!  Here he is all dressed up in his "bubble" given to him by his Bess (my Mom)...

I was not ready to try the nursery yet, even though Highpoint's nursery is fabulous.  So, we decided to go to the service and sit in the balcony in case of any outbursts.  Overall, Logan did very well, especially considering the loud music.  I never thought much about how loud it was before, but you think of things differently when you have a two month old baby!  We visited the nursery while we were there and plan to try it in a couple of weeks.

Brian and I were very blessed to have parents who took us to church regularly and taught us about Christ's love for us.  Logan will also be raised in church, and we are fortunate to have found a church home at Highpoint.

Two Months Old and Raising a Giant?!?!

Well, maybe not a giant, but we certainly have a big boy!  Logan is two months old today and went for his two month check-up.  Here are his "stats" on his growth:

Height: 25 inches (greater than 97th percentile)
Weight: 15 lbs., 12 oz. (greater than 97th percentile)
Head Circumference: 40 cm (88th percentile)

Yes, our baby is "off the growth charts" for his age according to his doctor.  However, since his height and weight are both at about the same place above the growth chart, he said that Logan is perfectly healthy and proportionate.  This reasurrance from the doctor made for two very happy parents.  Logan also had to get three shots at this visit, which was just as hard on his parents as it was on him!

Here is what Logan has been up to this month:
  • Smiling, cooing, and "talking" to us all the time, with his happiest time being about 6:00 a.m. :)
  • Making eye contact with his parents and others who talk to him
  • Controlling his head movement and holding it up like a champ
  • Enjoying "tummy time" and pushing up on his forearms for a very short lengths of time
  • Sleeping for about a 4 hour stretch during the early hours of the night
  • Continuing to eat about every 3 hours with the exception of the 4 hour stretch when he sleeps
Logan enjoyed another trip to the lake for Labor Day weekend, where he took another boat ride.  Thanks to the Fullers for letting us borrow the infant life jacket!

Logan and I went from the lake to Nashville to stay with my mom (Logan's grandmother) for a couple of nights, and we had a great time!  Brian was even able to join us on the second night when he was working in the Nashville area.  Logan, my Mom, and I spent Tuesday at the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art where we enjoyed the Chihuly Exhibit of amazing handblown glass sculptures.  Here are a couple of pictures from the day.  You will notice the handblown glass moon in the background.

We are enjoying our little Logan so much and are settling in as a family together.  We are so blessed to have such a sweet, healthy, happy baby!

Happy Baby!

Logan has been smiling for a while now- mainly in his sleep or when he is really drowsy. On Sunday, we saw a different kind of smile--- I smiled at him, and he smiled back! Those toothless grins really melt your heart :)
Disclaimer: He was dressed by his father...

Four Generations

Logan is the first born in the fourth generation on his maternal grandmother's side. Here is a picture of the four generations taken this weekend of Logan with me, his grandmother, and his great grandparents. So sweet!

Logan's first boat ride

This weekend Logan had his first ride on a boat, and we think he liked it...

It was a little bit cooler on Sunday, so we took the opportunity to see if he liked riding on the boat. He enjoys being outside, so we thought he would like it. Between the sound of the motor and the cool wind, he was out the entire time! It was sure to be his first of many boat rides throughout his life--- and his first was at 5 1/2 weeks!

Here is another great picture from the weekend thanks to his Bess who loves to take pictures of him.

One Month Old

Our sweet baby is one month old today! Everyone always tell you that they grow so fast, and it is definitely true. Physically, Logan is filling out his clothes more everyday and even starting to grow out of some of his 0-3 months sizes. Here are some other things Logan has been up to during his first month of life:

  • Holding his head up for 30 seconds or more during his "tummy time"
  • Continuing to roll on both sides
  • Focusing in one our faces and other things close in view
  • Listening to music and loving it
  • Loving his swing and bouncy seat
  • Sleeping at night consistently for at least three hours at a time and occasionally has slept for 4 or 5 consecutive hours (which his parents were extremely grateful for!)
  • Discovering his arms and legs and just how much they can move
  • Making "happy" noises when watching the lights and listening to music on his Baby Einstein mat (we love this!)
  • Going through more diapers than we can count!

The first month of getting to know our sweet Logan has been wonderful! We are trying to enjoy every minute we are with him because we know he will not be little for long and will continue to grow up so fast.

Here are a couple of other recent pictures that I love. They were taken last weekend during Logan's first (of what is sure to be many) trips to the lake. He got to spend the weekend being held by his Bess (my Mom) and Great Grandmother (my Grandmother), and when we returned home he did not want to be put down! He did not get anywhere near the water, but his parents got to enjoy some time on the boat while Logan received lots of attention from other family members.

I love this first picture- he looks so serious!

This one shows how long he is- he measured 21 1/2 inches at his 2 week check up and he looks every bit of it in this picture. So cute!

Two Weeks

Logan is two weeks old today- time is just flying by! He went for his two week checkup today, and the doctor confirmed what we already knew- Logan is perfect! Our completely biased opinion is that he is the most beautiful, smartest, and sweetest baby ever born. Here are his statistics:

Weight: 9 lbs., 9 oz. (79th percentile)

Height: 21 1/2 inches (89th percentile)

Head Circumference: 38 cm (81th percentile)

The doctor told us that the goal at 2 weeks is to be back at his birth weight, and Logan is 9 ounces above that. So, he is eating very well! He measured 21 1/2 inches long, compared to measuring 20 1/4 at the hospital. We think the hospital did not measure correctly because he looked so long from the beginning. Either that, or he is growing like crazy and has grown 1 1/4 inches in only two weeks!

Here are some things we have already learned about our sweet Logan:

- he has two dimples (one on each cheek) like his mother
- he can already turn on both sides
- he loves to have his arms free and sleeps with them above his head most of the time
- he likes to be held
- nothing wakes him up until he is ready, especially during the day
- he likes being outside--- we can take him outside when he is crying and he usually stops (at least temporarily)
- he loves to stretch and does so very often
- he loves his swing and his bouncy seat
- he also likes music and being sung to

Logan is a very happy baby and usually only cries when something is wrong. Usually the "something wrong" has to do with either hunger or him preparing a dirty diaper for his parents. We love him so much and enjoy taking care of him and seeing what new things he does each day.

Here are some pictures from his first two weeks:
