Logan is One!

July 8, 2010 was the day my life changed like it never had before.  This was the sweet face I first laid eyes on at 7:01 p.m.  Logan James weighed 9 pounds and was 20 1/4 inches long.  Everyone kept talking about how big he was, but he seemed so tiny to me.  Brian and I were so happy to finally meet him!

What everyone always says is right- babies grow up so fast.  I can hardly believe that Logan has been with us for a year now!  In his first year of life, he has changed so much as I suppose all babies do.  He went from being a sleepy newborn to a toddler eager to discover the world around him.  And, we had lots of fun with him in between those stages.  I remember thinking that he would probably never crawl because he was 8 months old before he started and a lot of other babies around us started much earlier.  However, once he started crawling, there was no stopping him!  He was pulling up on furniture a week later (literally) and was taking independent steps by 10 1/2 months.

Here is Logan walking around the Memphis Zoo on his birthday.  Such a big boy!

And, here he is on his first carousel ride. We thought his birthday would be a good time to try it, and he loved it!

There is nothing that can truly prepare you for what it is like to be a mother.  Loving your child brings out a love that you did not even know you had!  There are definitely times that try your patience and make you exhausted, but the wonderful, sweet, and fun moments make those all so worth it.

Logan is still so sweet! And, I know I am biased and say that all the time, but he really is.  He will always be my baby even if he is truly a toddler now.

Since our 11 month update, here are some new things Logan has been doing:
  • Talking even more! He even says kitty (kit-te) and book (or sometimes just ook).  He definitely knows who Mama and Dada are- they are not just sounds anymore.  He also says "bye" and sometimes "hey."
  • Waiving- he has been doing this for a while, but now he does what I call a Miss America waive.  He does it all of the time!
  • Loving electronics- anything from TV remotes where he can change the channel to the microwave where he can push buttons and open the door.
  • Running- I think we can definitely say he has moved passed walking to running.  And he is pretty much always running.
  • Pointing to things he wants- whether it is to be picked up, to walk into another room, or some more food.
  • Having a great appetite- Logan literally eats anything we put in front of him.  A week or so before his birthday, Aunt Holly fixed dinner and he had smoked salmon, tomato, peaches, and avocado.  Then he will just as easily eat green beans, carrotts, corn, and any vegetable.  He is a meat lover and eats any type of meat, including deli meat.  He will try anything!
  • Using a sippy cup. This took some time and persistence, but he is now adept at using one!
  • Loving being the center of attention.  He is comfortable in the "spotlight" and is happiest when everyone in a room is looking at him!
  • At his 12 month check-up, he weighed 28 pounds and was 32 1/2 inches tall.  He only gained 1/2 pound and grew 1/2 inch since his 9 month check-up, so he has finally been able to wear the same clothes for a few months!  He is in the 96th percentile in both height and weight.
One thing we notice about Logan when we are around other children his age is how he is truly a "boy" in every meaning of the word.  He likes to play rough, loves loud noises, and he never stops running unless he is asleep.  He also loves other babies, and he likes to pat girls on the head and try to take their bows!  He is so funny.

Logan, we are so honored to be your parents! We have had a blast with you over the last year, and we cannot wait for the many years to come.  We love you so much!
